The German magazine Der Spiegel has published new emails showing how Manchester City has violated financial fair play According to the publication, they even demonstrate the way in which the club lied to the Sports Arbitration Court, which overturned the punishment of `citizens` imposed by UEFA. In one of the emails, the City CEO Simon Pearce said he was `forwarding` to the Etihad 91 of the 99 million the airline owed to the club for an advertising contract, with the company actually giving only 8 million. Manchester City declined to comment on the emails, saying the court had acquitted them and that it was a `cynical attempt to reopen the case publicly`.
This is the second batch of emails, after in November 2018 the first ones created a lot of problems for the club by soccer events and actually caused the investigation to lead to a penalty for violating the Financial Fair Play. UEFA deprived the team of participation in European tournaments for two seasons and fined it 30 million euros. However, the sports arbitration court overturned the sanction and reduced the fine to 10 million.
